Real Filmmaking. Taught by Real Filmmakers.
FilmSkills was founded by Emmy Award–winning filmmaker Jason Tomaric with a simple belief: professional filmmaking education should be accessible to anyone serious about learning the craft.
For decades, the knowledge of how films are really made—the workflows, the on-set communication, the decision-making processes—has largely been passed down through experience on professional sets or through expensive film schools. Jason and the filmmakers behind FilmSkills set out to change that.
By partnering with Academy Award and Emmy-winning directors, cinematographers, producers, editors, and technologists from across the motion picture industry, FilmSkills brings together the practical knowledge professionals rely on every day. These instructors share not only the tools and techniques of filmmaking, but also the unspoken processes that make productions run smoothly behind the scenes.
Our goal is to provide a real-world education in motion picture production through clear, comprehensive video lessons supported by workbooks, projects, and resources that mirror the way professionals learn and work on set.
The result is filmmaking education that is professional, practical, and accessible—helping filmmakers everywhere learn the craft the way it’s practiced in the real world.
